The tour starts in the city of Riohacha at 8 am. First stop is Manaure, a little fisherman village famous for its natural and colorful salt flats. They estimate the extraction is around 70% of the salt consumed in Colombia. After a quick stop in Uribia, you’ll reach Cabo de la Vela just in time for a tasty lunch by the beach. In the afternoon you’ll visit the following attractions: Punta Arco Iris, Pilon de Azucar, Playa Ojo de Agua, and El Faro (the lighthouse), before closing the day with one of its famous sunsets.
After breakfast the proper journey into the Alta Guajira region begin stopping by few remarkable viewpoints of Bahia Honda and Bahia Portete until reaching the Rancheria of Punta Gallinas, with a spectacular view of the Bahia Hondita bay. In the afternoon you'll stop by the lighthouse (the actual northernmost point of South America) and then on to the massive dunes of Taroa. The rest of the day is all yours to enjoy such a beautiful and unique landscape. A masterpiece of nature!
The return journey is around 7 hours’ drive into the desert until Uribia, the indigenous capital of Colombia, for lunch and a stop in the main plaza to admire some handmade handcrafts.
Expect to be back in Riohacha around 3-4 pm.
WHAT TO BRING?
A small day backpack with: a Thermo or bottle for a refill, sunscreen, repellent, bathing suit, long-sleeved clothing for the night (as it can be windy), a pair of closed shoes & phone/camera charger.
Please leave the rest of luggage at your lodging as space in the car is very limited.

You'll be able to enjoy such a beautiful and unique landscape (a nature's masterpiece) all by yourself as tourists normally will arrive only in the afternoon. Lunch will be at a local Rancheria followed by a cultural afternoon, where a local Wayuu family will show you a bit about their culture and how they live.

After recharging some energy you'll go to the office of La Macuira National Park for a quick briefing with a local guide who will explain the unusual vegetation that makes the park home of numerous species of birds and animals. The guide will then accompaing you for a 2 hours walk into the reserve until reaching the hidden dunes and then back another 2 hours (approx) to the starting point.
Few hours in the car after leaving Nazareth and you'll be reaching Punta Gallinas just in time for a tasty lunch with a spectacular view of the Bahia Hondita bay. On the second day you'll have all morning for hiking the Pilon de Azucarar, a sacred place for the Wayuu indigenous of the region. Your guide will explain the story behind it. You can later enjoy a beautiful beach called Playa Dorada y then one last lunch in the ranchería of Cabo de la Vela, before heading back to Riohacha. Expect to be back around 3-4 pm.
