Itinerary & Info

  • Day 1 – Cabo de la Vela

Tour start in the city of Riohacha at 8am, where your adventure begins. First stop is Manaure, a little fisherman village famous for its natural and colourful salt flats. They estimate the extraction is around 70% of the salt consumed in Colombia. Later on you’ll reach Cabo de la Vela, another little village full of Rancherias (local Wayuu lodging) and kitesurfers. After lunch few attractions for you to visit in the afternoon (Playa Arco Iris, Pilon de Azucar, Playa Ojo de Agua, and El Faro, the famous lighthouse) before closing the day with a beautiful sunset over the beach.


  • Day 2 – Punta Gallinas

Just after breakfast the proper journey into the Alta Guajira region begin stopping by few remarkable viewpoints of Bahia Honda and Bahia Portete until reaching the Rancheria of Punta Gallinas, with a spectacular view of the bay. The afternoon is all about the lighthouse (the actual northernmost point of South America) and the massive dunes of Taroa, where the desert meets the sea. Plenty of time here to enjoy such a beautiful and unique landscape.


  • Day 3

The return journey back to Riohacha is around 7 hours’ drive into the desert with a stop for lunch in Uribia, the indigenous capital of Colombia. Expect to be back in town around 3 pm.



WHAT TO BRING?

A small day backpack with: a thermo or bottle for refill, sunscreen, repellent, bathing suits, long sleeved clothing for the night (as it can be windy), a pair of shoes for the hike of the first day, positive attitude and patience. Leave the big backpacks and valuables at your lodging.

Quick lunch and then ready for a walk (around 4-5 hours return) into the National Park La Macuira with a local guide who will explain the unusual vegetation that makes the park home of numerous species of birds.


  • Day 3 – Punta Gallinas

Few hours in the car until reaching the Rancheria of Punta Gallinas, with a spectacular view of the bay of Bahia Hondita. Itinerary & Info

The tour starts in Riohacha at 12 and ends the following day at 2pm.


We'll drive to Albania, a little town close the coal mine of Cerrejon. Here Lizandro and his family will show you their culture and will let you live like they live for a day. He'll talk about the spiritualty that is at the base of their culture and how they are deeply connected to the motherland. 


You'll help cooking dinner and breakfast, get the water from the draw-well and help get the goats into the fence. In the next morning you'll be able to know the kids of the little school Lizandro teach at. The kids will be happy to know you and we can assure they'll have plenty of questions!


Is a truly unique experience, so please be aware there will be no luxury, electricity or running water.
